Window Dressers

The Montpelier Energy Advisory Committee teamed up again this year with WindowDressers to offer low-cost interior storm window inserts to Montpelier residents. If your windows are cold or drafty, we can help!

After placing your order, trained volunteers will make a house call to measure your windows. You’ll then need to participate in a local WindowDressers Community Build where your inserts are made. Finally, you pick up your inserts at the end of the workshop.

Financial assistance is available for low-income participants thanks to support from the New England Grassroots Environmental Fund. Rebates are also available from Efficiency Vermont to cover some of the cost. The average window insert costs around $40, but it depends on the size.

This year’s Community Build will be held at the Barre Auditorium November 9-16, 2023. We are looking for volunteers who can help with one of our assembly shifts. Sign up to volunteer.

We are still taking requests for inserts for 2023, but due to high demand, you may be placed on a waitlist for 2024. https://windowdressers.org/sign-up-for-inserts/

About the inserts: The inserts are made of a pine frame wrapped in transparent shrink wrap plastic on both sides, forming an insulating air cell. Half-inch foam around the outer edges holds the inserts in place inside the existing window. Each insert is measured and custom-made for the window. The inserts can be easily removed and stored at the end of the heating season and can last several years before needing to be re-wrapped.
